After I replaced my alternator, my power steering started moaning and groaning especially when cold. I figured that it was because I was manhandling the power steering pump to get the belt back on. So I did some research and found the HondaTSB 07-086. I did the job which took all of 5 minutes, and the power steering pump finally shut the hell up. Cost is around $5.00 for the parts.

The TSB is for all 7th Generation V6 Accords

Parts and Tools Needed.
1. O-ring – Honda Part Number P/N 08206-9002
2. Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid – H/C 3747284
3. Shop Towel
4. 10mm wrench

The O Ring

The PS Fluid

The inlet joint bolt

1. Place Shop Towel Under Inlet Joint Bolt

2. Use 10mm wrench to remove bolt and joint

3. Remove old O Ring

4. Install new O Ring to inlet hose coupler.

5. Reinstall joint coupler and bolt.

6. Check PS fluid and add if needed

7. Remove shop towel, start engine, check for leaks, turn steering wheel lock to lock to listen for groaning

8. Turn off engine and check PS fluid one last time

Anybody heard of FFKM o-rings? I am coming to terms with the terminology. I just started working for this o-ring company. They told me the price of a lump of this material is worth the price of my little toyota! Thanks for your great article. I was actually searching the internet to learn more about this subject because I have 3 months probation to worry about and I want to learn as much as possible. Thanks again.

I have a sound in my 05 Honda Accord EX Sedan – V6 that sounds like a whining (almost like a supercharger) that goes up and down when I put load on the car – (give it gas) while driving. Any suggestions?

BTW – I did the fix above. SUPER easy. I was hoping it would fix my noise, but nope! Bummer!

This pretty munch sounds like my problem.
The power steering pump whine horribly in the morning when I first start it up. It doesn’t shut up till the engine is good and warmed up. Once the engine is warm it’s sound level is pretty much back to normal. I noticed once that the power steering fluid was foaming and causing some to come out of the reservoir cap. I wonder if this is where the air is coming from.
I will get the parts tomorrow and see if this solves the problem, but it sure looks promising.
To top it off I had in into the Honda Dealer and they tried to tell me that the fluid was getting to hot and replaced my thermostat. I knew it needed a thermostat, but was pretty sure that would not fix the power steering problem and of course it didn’t. You would of thought they would of known about this TSB, shit that’s why I take it to the Dealer.
Anyway, I’ll let you know if this fixes it.

I had the same problem with the o-ring inmy Honda Accord and I wanted to see if I could fix it myself and save some money. I have an fkm o-ring that seems to do the job, but not sure.
