Tools:
- 5/8 spark plug socket.
- 10″ socket extension
- A universal joint for the extension and socket
- Anti-seize
- Metric sockets
- 4mm allen wrench
- Dielectric Tune-up Grease
1. Using a 4mm allen wrench, remove the cover by unscrewing four allen screws as shown by the red arrows.
2. Remove the two (8mm) bolts holding each of the ignition coils in place.
3. With the bolts removed, pull out the coil
4. Disconnect coil connector by pressing the green tab towards the coil.
5. With the coil removed, you can see the spark plug: Using your extension, spark plug (5/8) socket, and universal joint, unscrew and pull out the spark plug
6. Coat the threads of each spark plug with anti-seize and insert it back in. The torque specs for the spark plugs are 14-22 ft-lbs.
7. Coat the inside of the coil where it makes contact with spark plug with a thin layer of dielectric tune-up grease. This helps minimize corrosion.
8. Reinsert the ignition coil. Secure it with the 2 bolts.
9. Repeat this procedure for all the ignition coils.
10. That rear spark plug towards the middle of the engine bay is tough to get to. It is easier if you remove the “Purge Volume Control Valve Bracket”. Remove the 12mm nuts that are holding the bracket in place. (shown by the blue reds). You don’t need to disconnect the hoses or connectors, just move the bracket with the valve aside.
11. As the coils in the front, the rear coils have two 8mm bolts. Remove the bolts of each coil.
12. Disconnect the coil connector of each coil, by pressing the green tab towards the coil and pull the coil.
13. With the coil removed, you can see the spark plug: Using your extension, spark plug (5/8) socket, and universal joint, unscrew and pull out the spark plug
14. Coat the threads of each spark plug with anti-seize and insert it back in. The torque specs for the spark plugs are 14-22 ft-lbs.
15. Coat the inside of the coil where it makes contact with spark plug with a thin layer of dielectric tune-up grease. This helps minimize corrosion.
16. Reinsert the ignition coil. Secure it with the 2 bolts.
17. Repeat this procedure for all the ignition coils.
